More sketchbook stuff - Girl

I've realised that I haven't posted any of my drawings for the girl who is Remus' owner. At first they started off really detailed. The hair especially was a problem. I then went into drawing people I know. The girl holding the cup is actually based on my sister.
To solve the hair problem I tried making the hair into a bob as its a simple straight cut hairstyle. I even tried making the eyes big like my Remus character but it really didnt work.

The bob then turned into a backward baseball cap with a fish logo on (I know it looks like the Jesus symbol on these drawings but it has changed so it looks lots different). She is a simple character that I think goes well with my Remus character.

I actually made her look a bit like I did when I was younger as thats when I was most confident and happy about how I look. In a way she is the younger version of me. On the left is a photo I found of me in a backward cap too!
As you can tell my character has a bigger head and smaller body than myself. This is for her to look appealing and cartoony.

A cartoon character who is similar to mine is TJ from 'Disney's Recess' who is shown here.

3D with hand-drawn character

I have had this idea for a while of using the 3D pet shop I made as the background and Flash for my characters. Below is an image I made combining the 3D background and a drawing I did of my Remus character.

I think the only thing that is wrong is the background is too solid and doesn't fit in with the cartoony style of the characters. If I put cartoony texture effects with black line edges it might look better. I know you can do it but Im not totally sure how so I will have to see a lectuer about it.

More sketchbook work

About time that I posted some more of my sketches.

Fish Shop Concept art

Here is just one image I did as an idea how the fish tank area of the shop could look like. I've cheekily added some of the fish I made in 1st year for fun ;)

Remus Character Designs from Sketchbooks

Below are some more designs from my sketch book of Remus. I've even included early designs done using the 20secs method (which I hate! Its where you have only 20 seconds to draw a design and you can't stop to think for each one. Its 20secs one after another until you've filled the page).

Remus the Naughty Cat/Bengal Storyboard

Not sure on the title yet. I kind of think Bengal sounds better than Cat but not everyone has heard of Bengals but know what a cat is... Guess I could call it 'Remus the Naughty Bengal cat' but that sounds awful to me. Oh 'Remus the Cat' or 'The Naughty Cat' or even 'The Naughty Cat, Remus'. Doesn't really matter at the moment any way.

This is the first page of my thumbnails for the Naughty Cat story. I'm not overly impressed with quite a few of the angles and will have to get some advice on good angles and views. Never really been taught it so will be very helpful.

I also think that I will be sticking with this idea or slightly changing it to be set in a Fish Shop. I will write a short script with the fish shop as a setting to see how I feel first though.

I also found that I prefer to draw guys than girls probably because most of my friends are guys so I can think how they move and act more than a girl. Yes I know I am a girl and should know from that but who watches them self or really thinks how they sit on a sofa or throw a toy, and could draw that accurately! That's why once I have a final story, plan and storyboard I will ask a friend to be my character in the animation. I plan to film him doing the actions so I know it looks right. Just like they did for the old Disney films ;) Walt supposedly preferred doing it this as well. Can't remember the quote I read but I will find it and post it on here when I do.

Oh and excuse my thumbnails, they aren't meant to be the neatest or tidiest things in the world.

Little Red Riding Hood Storyboard

I'm slowly going off this idea as I really want to do something that will make people laugh. Making this first page of storyboard thumbnails for it made me really realise this.

Room design

Just a quick design for a possible bedroom background. The angle of the bed is wrong so next time I will do a light outline of the room.

Life Drawings

Here are some Life Drawings of my Bengal kitten, Remus to help me with designing my cat character. I love how Bengals have a wild look about them because they have Asian Leopard Cats in their ancestry. Remus is about 5 generations from one. Because of this I am considering having the cat in my short be a Bengal.

Here are some photos of Remus to compare my drawings to :)

Some sketches that I promised

This is a drawing I did for the morphing idea. Its the first part where the girl is sitting thinking and about to turn her head to look out the window.

I made her look young and in an uncomfortable position to show how uncomfortable she is with herself and to try and emphasise how she wants to be free. I don't know if I explained that right but it makes sense to me :p

I am not happy with how I drew her fingers or her feet and I think the angles are off so I will have to work on that.

These cats were for any of my ideas involving a cat really. The top cat was based on this fluffy black and white cat that keeps trying to sneak in my house. I sat in the garden drawing it as she went around me and kept trying to nuzzle into me. I had another go making her look thinner below it but I'm just not feeling it. Like somethings wrong with it but I don't know what. Maybe the eyes.

The spotted cat is a bengal based on my kitten, Remus. Its my favourite of all the drawings. I did it as Remus looks all proud like this when he takes his toys off the sofa.

The bottom cat is based on the normal domestic cats that roam around my garden. I also really like these drawings as they are simple but look right. I am also a fan of just dot for eyes so thats another reason why I like them more.
